On Tuesday 30 March 2021, the LIFE PHOENIX project - Perfluorinated compounds HOlistic ENvironmental Interistitutional eXperience (LIFE16 ENV / IT / 000488), co-funded by the EU within the LIFE programme, will celebrate the completion of its project experience with the Final Conference. The event, held online, will be open to all interested audiences, and will see the participation of the entire project team who will present the results achieved following over three years of analysis and research.
Coordinated by the Veneto Region - Prevention, Food Safety and Veterinary Science Department (lead partner), in collaboration with Azienda Zero, Veneto Regional Agency for Environmental Prevention and Protection (ARPAV), CNR Water Research Institute (IRSA-CNR) and University of Padua, the LIFE PHOENIX project proposed an innovative and multidisciplinary approach to the management of environmental contamination, concurrently involving the institutional bodies and the scientific research community in decision-making processes.
To support this new interinstitutional governance model, the LIFE PHOENIX project, during its operational course, has implemented several good practices and innovative solutions, among others: an information and statistical system, integrated with numerous databases from various local, regional and national institutions; a predictive mathematical model of pollutant dispersion in space and time; a plan with guidelines and prevention protocols, complemented by the use of experimental technologies: a series of tools based on the methodological approach of risk analysis.
The project activity also carried out a participatory process which saw the involvement of professionals, experts, stakeholders, citizens, the world of schools and universities. In addition, the replicable working methodology, based on the know-how and the results deriving from the multidisciplinary approach, allowed the transfer of the main project results to other national and European areas, where similar risk situations are present.
