LIFE PHOENIX: the information and statistical system for risk analysis is ready - Life Phoenix
One of the key actions of the LIFE PHOENIX project has been completed. It deals with the integration of various types of territorial, environmental and health data into a single information and statistical system to support the risk analysis. The tool was delivered to the project team which is currently carrying out a series of test, in close connection with the developers, in order to verify its correct functioning, make the necessary adjustments and identify the future development guidelines.
The contents and functions of the information and statistical system of the LIFE PHOENIX project fit perfectly into the national strategy for health prevention, recently outlined by the new National Prevention Plan 2020-2025. The Plan's objectives, in fact, include the development of integrated environment and health information systems at national and local level, in order to allow the combined reading of the monitoring / exposure / effect data, and in the aim of estimating the impacts on the health of the population.
In particular, the Plan emphasizes the necessity of tools able to facilitate the exchange of information between authorities and bodies committed to the issue of water intended for human consumption, according to the development of Water Safety Plans (WSP) and a better control programming. Keep in mind that the WSPs are a structured tool for the risk analysis of the drinking water supply chains that all Integrated Water Service Managing Bodies will have to adopt by 2025. The information and statistical system of the LIFE PHOENIX project will therefore facilitate the application of the WSP methodology, reducing the time and steps required to collect the relevant information and facilitating the integrated reading of the data.
In short, the LIFE PHOENIX project, presented also to the operators of the regional Health Units a few days ago, is leading the way towards an intense work of informative and functional integration that all the competent institutions in the fields of Health and Environment will be required to carry out in the coming years. This positive experience, based on the sharing of objectives, knowledge, skills and data between different Bodies, will be an excellent starting point for an increasingly structured and systematic common path.
