LIFE PHOENIX among the experimental cases presented at the PFAS seminar of the Interreg CIRCE2020 project

The LIFE PHOENIX project was presented yesterday at the workshop titled "The purification of PFAS in the perspective of the circular economy", organized within the framework of the Interreg CIRCE2020 project (Expansion of the CIRcular Economy concept in the Central Europe local productive districts).

During the technical seminar, which involved the participation of over 100 experts, several issues were addressed, in particular related to the purification and treatment of PFAS. The discussion took place in line with the approach proposed by the CIRCE2020 project, which expects to minimize resources consumption and waste production taking into account both the environmental and the economic impact.

The unfolding of PFAS as an emerging micropollutant has led in recent years to pay particular attention also to their presence in landfill leachate and to develop studies and tests intended for their elimination. In this context, the PHOENIX Project was mentioned among the ongoing experimental case studies, with a contribution provided by the UNIPD project partner focused mainly on the phytodepuration pilot system for the capture of the pollutant. The workshop also proved to be a useful opportunity for networking and potential collaboration among project managers.

The INTERREG CIRCE2020 project aims to facilitate a wider diffusion of the integrated environmental management approach in five specific industrial areas of Central Europe, in order to facilitate the transition from the linear economic model to the circular economic model in the production districts within the project areas.
